REUNION FOR 1964 MATRICS at The Point Hotel On the weekend of the 29th July 2011, 34 of the 64 matriculants from the 1964 Point High School class spent two days in Mossel Bay, as guests of The Point Hotel, to celebrate the 47th year since they left school. In addition 7 of their teachers attended the event. Johann Barnard, the son of the late Rudie Barnard who was the headmaster at Park Primary School was the coordinator for the reunion. Johan’s father was a highly respected citizen in Mossel Bay and served the town as Mayor for many years. During the 1964 class term, the school had three Headmasters, Dr. M J Hauptfleish, Dr. J B Pauw who both has passed away and Dr. P S Meyer who is today residing in Welgelegen in the Western Cape. Seven of the students and four teachers are currently residing in Mossel Bay. Amongst the teachers is Marietjie Oosthuizen, whose late husband Johan was also a teacher at Point High School and past mayor of Mossel Bay. Bertholt Alheit, a past deputy mayor of the town, Mr. PMA Brand and Me.M Brink. Regrettably, six of the students and 19 of the teachers have in the meantime passed away. The class visited the Old Point High School (today the Milkwood Primary School), the new Point High School, The Harry Giddey Park and Santos Beach. Louis Harris, owner of The Point Hotel invited his classmates and teachers to stay at The Point Hotel as his guests, to relax and enjoy the Point atmosphere with all of it’s wonderful memories.
