"Good stay with fantastic views"
Reviewed yesterday

The hotel is in a fantastic position overlooking the sea. Went to sleep to the sound of crashing waves. Our room was on the fifth floor on the sea side. There is a smell pervading the corridors but opening the window in the room clearly shows that this comes from the sea and seaweed on the rocks outside. Rooms are a bit dated but ours was very clean. Staff were very pleasant and helpful, particularly the gentlemen who tried (albeit unsuccessfully) to find an adaptor for my husband's razor. Would stay there again if in Mossel Bay.

Room Tip: Make sure that you have a room that over looks the sea.

Right on the shore. You can hear the waves and feel the water spray. Splendid. Must choose a room on the higher floor overlooking the ocean.

Very good breakfast and friendly staff. Over all a good experience

Comments: We stayed here for 8 days in Dec as part of our garden route holiday. The staff at the hotel were super friendly and met all our many requirements quickly and with a smile! Whilst the rooms are not super luxurious they are clean and offer superb views of the ocean and waves crashing onto the rocks! The food choices were both tasty and varied and offered good value for money when compared with other Mossel Bay restaurants. I would highly recommend this hotel for family visitors to Mossel Bay.

We live in Mossel Bay, therefor we do not know what the accommodation is like. What we do know is that the Restaurant is one of the (only 3) restaurants in Mossel Bay worth visiting. Tasy, quality food and very good service. Friendly, well trained staff. • Stayed March 2013, travelled with friends

"Good hotel, great location"

The location of the hotel is fantastic, so nice to fall asleep with the sound of waves breaking on the rocks. I can see where some of the bad reviews are coming from, but hotels this close to the sea will always have problems. I found the establishment well maintained and clean. Food in the restaurant was good and staff friendly, although they do not have the clinical sharpness I experienced in other top-rated establishments. They will see me again, well done.
Room Tip: All rooms are sea-facing, so no major differences

South Africa, January 25, 2013 Superb location on the crashing waves

You find earplugs in bedside cabinet. Waves sound as if they crash into the room. Stunning view especially on a full moon.

Excellent location, great rooms and very good food 9.3
The room had a wonderful view of the beach and the sea.It was clean, big and very fresh. All equipment worked fine, apart from a small issue with the shower. The breakfast included everything you could ask for. The dinner was excellent with many very tasty dishes and excellent wine. All for a very reasonable price.

Oasis in the middle of the frenetic holiday crowd - 2013/01/01

In a busy season (like Christmas) access to The Point Hotel can be a challenge. With beach parking and a neighbouring caravan park, there was a lot of traffic using the one way road that goes past the hotel. Once there though, the hotel was like an oasis in the middle of the frenetic holiday crowd. Right on the rocks, our three rooms had amazing views across the ocean.

The hotel is so close to the crashing waves they provide ear plugs, seriously. But what a wonderful, privileged experience to be able to go to sleep listening to Mother Nature thundering just outside. Our rooms were very comfortable although no bar fridge is provided. However, if you need to keep things cool, the hotel will store them in one of their fridges until you need them. The bathrooms are fairly small but not inconveniently so. The shower curtain did not stretch the entire way across the bath/ shower combination so keeping the floor from getting wet was not easy. The reception staff were friendly enough but I did get the impression that the holiday season was wearing them down and stretching their patience.

Hope they all get a holiday soon, too! Dinner at the hotel restaurant was very good - thankfully so, as we did not want to venture back into the traffic again. Thanks to our waitress, Gloria, we had efficient service and she made us laugh with her wonderful sense of humour.

As I am typing this review I am sitting on my veranda with a cup of coffee. This is a beautiful hotel with absolutely stunning views of the sea. The staff are all very friendly and they will help you with anything you ask them. My room is huge with beautiful corner bath and corner shower. The breakfast is good and you don't need more to eat as to what's on offer and if you want to complain about breakfast then call yourself a little piggy. We have had two suppers here so far and it is good food and the pricing is good. My wife and I are staying here for seven days and we are in our fourth day so far and we are very much enjoying it here.

The design of the hotel and balcony overlooking the sea gave one a feeling of complete privacy. The staff were unobtrusive and quietly got on with the job. Breakfasts were superb. Coming from Cape Town I was a little worried about the car being parked in a public car park without security, but perhaps my fear was unfounded. Desk clerk very accomodating in giving us a choice of two rooms, one facing the sea and the other, the sunny side where all the activity took place.Room was extremely comfortable and clean and I highly recommend a stay at the Point.

The room was booked by my daughter-in-law who gave it to my wife and myself as a birthday gift. The welcome at reception was outstanding and our room had a beautiful sea facing view and in pristine condition. The room was very comfortable and afforded me a good nights rest.

The dinner was outstanding with the chef and staff constantly checking up and enquiring if the meal was up to standard or if we needed something extra. The same thing happened @ breakfast.
The staff were all very friendly and attentive and would recommend the hotel to any traveller going to visit Mossel Bay.

I would like to say a huge THANK YOU for the wonderful experience my husband and I had at The Point Hotel during our Honeymoon. We were incredibly and pleasantly surprised to see our room decorated as a honeymoon suite with the flowers on the bed, champagne on ice and snacks..we were truly speechless and very touched by the extra special touch you guys gave. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, the reception staff always having a smile on their faces, Morne whom upon arrival helped us with a smile, the amazing food provided, as well as housekeeping staff Junie and Leney who apart from keeping our room clean and tidy gave us lots of helpful information regarding the beautiful town of Mossel Bay. We have been raving non stop about the surreal experience we had at your lovely hotel and it will definitely have a very special place in our lives. We definitely look forward to coming to visit The Point Hotel again, hoping it will be sooner rather then later. Take care and keep up the excellent work.

As a group of twelve Welsh Lions rugby supporters we stayed for two nights at the Point en route to Cape Town. From the outset we were made to feel welcome. The rooms were comfortable and each had a balcony overlooking the ocean. The area had a wild storm on one night and the experience was unforgettable. The staff were pleasant and helpful throughout our stay. The breakfast was varied and plentiful. Dinner was sublime and was the best meal-of many excellent meals-we had while in South Africa. Prices were reasonable and I would thoroughly recommend a visit.

The Cuban Bar in town wasn't bad either!!!!!!!!!!!

gTravelz, 1 Dec 2009:
Would recommend to a friend! The view is simply amazing! The pool is awesome if you don't mind saltwater (it is built into the area where the waves crash against the rocks). We went at a time when there were not many people here and had the pool to ourselves. The breakfast was great also (lots of variety).

The hike up the nearby rocks is very nice and the views are so picturesque.

I am a wedding organizer based in England for 16 years now. I only started doing weddings a few months ago. Searching for the right venue for Karen and Peter Beverton's choice, I tried various Hotels, but one Hotel and its manageres did it... Chantel at The Point Hotel. Chantel went out of her way to accommodate and help with all my requests and she stayed in contact by email informing me of any changes. She gave me advice on where to find suppliers and good prices. She was there from the beginning to the end. The wedding was 5/5/08 Monday 14.00. All the staff were very helpful, friendly and nothing was to much trouble. They made us feel that we were the only important guests. The rooms have a beautiful sea view, is clean and very good. With the stunning see view the guests enjoy standing on the balcony of the conference room with a glass of champagne. I could choose from several menus and the hotel chef were very helpful because we had to include a menu for vegeterian and diabetic guests.

I will certainly use The Point Hotel again for a wedding venue!
