The Point Hotel Mossel Bay Now Open for Bookings During 2010 World CupThe management team at The Point Hotel, Mossel Bay, is pleased to be able to inform our clients that the property has been released from its contract with FIFA, and now has availability during the 2010 World Cup. “We’re offering special rates and commission structures for the period - even though we expect that the Garden Route and Klein Karoo region will enjoy an influx of supporters, especially with the Japanese team basing itself in George (which is just 40 km up the coast), and the Danish and French teams coming to Knysna (which is about 110 km away),” said the hotel’s owner, Louis Harris. Mr. Harris explained that the hotel was a perfect destination because of Mossel Bay’s many beaches and other attractions, and because of its position exactly half way between the host cities of Cape Town (400 km to the west) and Port Elizabeth (400 km to the east).
Mossel Bay enjoys a mild climate, with 300 days and more of sunshine every year - which allows us to enjoy the beaches even during our winter (from May to August). “Winter is also the best time for whale- and dolphin watching, because that’s when the migratory species (and especially the southern right whales) visit Mossel Bay - so you can lie in bed and watch them from your sea-front room at The Point Hotel - or you can walk along the 12 km Cape St Blaize trail (which begins at the hotel and follows a contour path along the cliffs above the Indian Ocean).” He said, too, that Mossel Bay had many attractions beyond the beach. “The town offers a wide selection of adventures, including adrenalin sports like shark cage diving, a high-speed wave rider, and charter fishing. We also have a number of game reserves that provide regular African safari game drives, and, for the entertainment of fans, there are many excellent sports bars, pubs, discos, and nightclubs. “Mossel Bay is also an area that’s particularly rich in history, and Mossel Bay’s Dias Museum Complex, which houses the famous Post Office Tree, has several different galleries that explore our maritime and local history, and the world under the sea. The 4-star Point Hotel, he said, is situated in a stunning location on the rocks next to the ancient Cape St Blaize Cave. “Our luxury rooms all have sea views - and all have their own balconies - and we have all the facilities for access for the disabled. And, of course, there are no less than seven fine restaurants in the close neighbourhood (including our own very popular The Lighthouse Restaurant - which specialises in locally caught, fresh seafood). “The Hotel also overlooks the longest natural rock pool on South Africa’s coastline - which is a fabulous place for safe sea-water swimming.
